Minneapolis Public Schools reaches tentative contract agreement with food service employees
DATE: March 17, 2022
Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) has reached a tentative contract agreement with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents a variety of staff positions in MPS’s Culinary Wellness & Services. For contractual reasons, MPS cannot share any details about the tentative agreement until SEIU members vote on it.
SEIU employees provide MPS students and other youth in Minneapolis with daily meals, snacks and wellness programs, among other related services.
“The contributions these staff provide to each school community and the district are invaluable, especially to our students who depend on their hard work to get the tasty, nutritious meals they need to fuel their bodies and healthy growth,” Superintendent Ed Graff said. “SEIU employees have been key throughout the pandemic, serving on the front lines distributing millions of food boxes for students in the early days of the pandemic and throughout distance learning.”
Thank you to all MPS staff involved in the countless hours of contract negotiations and to SEIU throughout this process for their hard work at the table in getting a tentative agreement in place. Our collective hard work was key to averting a strike and ensuring our student nutrition services and wellness programs will continue uninterrupted.
