Application Instructions for International Candidates

If you completed your bachelor’s degree in a country other than the United States, there are additional requirements you must complete as part of your application to the Minneapolis Special Education Teacher Residency.   • Submit evaluated transcripts. University of St Thomas requires applicants’ credentials to be at least the equivalent to a four-year bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited U.S.institution. If you completed your undergraduate or graduate work at a college or university outside of the United States, you must complete a transcript evaluation.
  • English Proficiency Requirements. All international applicants and non-native speakers of English must meet one of the English proficiency requirements listed below before being allowed to register for classes. The only exception for international candidates is those who have a degree from English-speaking Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
  • You must meet one of English proficiency requirements listed below. Score reports may be no more than two years old. 
    • TOEFL iBT overall score of 80, with a minimum subscore of 20 on the written and speaking sections. (school code: 6110)
    • IELTS (Academic) overall score of 6.5
    • PTE Academic overall score of 53
    • ELS level 112
    • MELAB score of 80. The score report must be accompanied by an official letter from the testing coordinator.
