Classroom Support:

Minneapolis Public Schools has a wide variety of classroom support positions. These non-teaching classroom positions assist the teacher with instruction. Positions provide opportunities to work with a wide variety of students: regular education and special needs; elementary, middle, high school; and English speaking or English Language Learners. Listed below are the Classroom Support Positions. All Positions listed below require at least 60 semester or 90 quarter college credits and official transcripts in a sealed envelope.  Please review the job descriptions for more specific requirements.

Non-Classroom:

There are other employment opportunities with the Minneapolis Public Schools outside the classroom that are equally important in a child's education. To ensure that a school functions properly, to safely transport children to and from school, to prepare food for students, or to assist the administrative and teaching staff in the day-to-day operation of a school are crucial functions for a child's education. Licensed Positions

Reserve Teachers (Substitute Teachers):

Minneapolis Public Schools is a great place to be a ReserveTeacher (Substitute Teacher). Reserve Teachers may work in the following areas: K-8, High School, ABE, ECFE or a combination of these areas.

There are two kinds of assignments for Reserve Teachers.

1. Short-call reserve assignments. These assignments can last from 1 to 20 days.
2. Long-call reserve assignments. These assignments are more than 20 days and can last up to 1 semester or 110 days. To be a long call reserve teacher, you must be fully licensed or eligible for a full-time limited license.

Teachers on Special Assignment (TOSAs):

TOSA positions in the Minneapolis Public Schools have evolved to support both the site-based instructional/educational program needs of students and the unique needs of students and staff district-wide.

Site Teachers on Special Assignment are highly qualified professionals who have been identified as having high-level skills which fit the unique needs of site TOSA positions. Site TOSAs are selected by the site through a standard screening process with representation that includes site teachers who will receive the services. The job description indicates whether the position is for a specific period of time as determined by a site-based decision making process.

District TOSAs are highly qualified professionals who have been identified through an extensive recruiting and screening process as having high-level skills that fit the unique needs of a district TOSA position. The job description indicates whether the position is for a specific period of time. District Teachers on Special Assignment provide resource services for programs or for a department, development for a cluster of schools or district-wide, or leadership services to one or more schools/programs. District TOSAs whose major responsibility is instructional support, teacher training, and/or curriculum development must have significant experience in classroom instruction.

All candidates interested in applying for TOSA positions must submit a letter of interest, resume, relevant experience, and updated school district application for specific vacancies in order to be considered. MPS employees are also required to complete the items listed above including an updated application.

Candidate Pool Positions

Many people ask why we do not have certain postions posted at this time.  Vacancies are first filled internally through the transfer process.  Any positions clearing that process are filled from the candidate pool.  Names from the candidate pool are referred to the sites for consideration in hiring.  Completing your online application today ensures that you are being considered when positions become available.
